Cornbread Recipe

2 cups OLD SCHOOL BRAND Self-Rising Corn Meal
1 1/2 cups sweet milk or buttermilk
2 eggs
4 tablespoons shortening
1 tablespoon sugar (optional)

Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease pan well and heat in oven while mixing batter. Mix together corn meal and sugar. Beat milk and eggs together and add to dry ingredients. Add shortening. Pour into hot pan and bake 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

    This makes the most delicious cornbread~! I substituted 4 T melted butter for the shortening and used an iron skillet. Just like mom’s! Oh, and it’s gluten free and super easy to make. The corn flavor shines, the texture is just right and it doesn’t flatten out in the skillet, but leaves a nice crunchy texture on top. It’s perfect.
